PLEASE ALLOW US TO INTRODUCE OURSELVES

We are producers, composers, musicians, and engineers who make custom original
music for content of all stripes. We’re good listeners who love to solve problems and elevate the story-telling process through great music and sound. Think of us as your music creation and production department. Or your secret weapon. Or your power animal.

IT BEGAN WITH A DREAM

A dream of not wearing hair nets, or hard hats, or asking people if they wanted to supersize their order. Fortunately, we had a knack for music – composing it, recording it, mixing it, and tailoring it to great film and video to tell moving and memorable stories. Speaking of stories, here are some highlights from ours.

Michael Lande
Producer / Sr. Composer / Co-Founder

Michael Lande is a San Francisco-based composer and producer who has scored hundreds of commercials and films for clients such as Apple, ABC, Disney, McDonald’s, PBS, Sprint, Toyota, Yahoo!, Twitter, and Ubisoft. His music has been played by the likes of Kronos Quartet and Joshua Redman.

The son of an accomplished L.A. jazz pianist, Michael got into multitrack recording at an early age – on his father’s old reel-to-reel tape machine. He caught the synthesizer bug and began building his own electronic instruments. By high school he had scored his first short film. At UC Santa Cruz Michael studied classical and electronic music and played in a dizzying number of ensembles – from Javanese Gamelan, to African percussion, to bowed piano, to a popular weekend party band playing the devil’s rock and roll music. He also found a mentor in brilliant Juliard emeritus James Wimer.

After college he moved to Oakland, interning at a 16-track studio and forming a band with members of seminal indie groups Deerhoof, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Thinking Plague, and Free Salamander Exhibit.

A rare opportunity took him to Kansas City, where he assembled a 10-piece jazz band with some of the best players in the city, released an album on Stomp Off Records, and sold numerous arrangements to Vince Giordano of Boardwalk Empire and Woody Allen scoring fame.

Returning to Oakland, Michael landed a senior role at the venerated Hank Smith Music house, which later partnered with Hector and Music Orange to form the Bay Area’s premier boutique studio, Music Orange, Inc.

Michael remains a compulsive technophile, and developed the software that powers the Music Orange music library. If you want to get him talking, ask about any of his numerous DIY projects including a rack-mount ring modulator, custom record cabinet, and Leslie speaker simulator.

Michael teaches composition and scoring for film, tv, and games at West Valley College in Saratoga, California, and sits on the West Coast Board of the Association of Music Producers (AMP).

Héctor H. Pérez
Music Producer / Sr. Composer / Co-Founder

Héctor 'Hecdog' Pérez is a Grammy- and Oscar-nominated San Francisco-based composer and producer.

Hailing from the prestigious Hamilton High Music Academy in Los Angeles, Héctor studied electronic music at UC Berkeley. He graduated with honors and was hired by A&M Records to work with the likes of Mötley Crüe, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and Bon Jovi.

After returning to Berkeley as the Music Department's Chief Audio Engineer, Héctor was discovered by San Francisco’s Michael Boyd Music, rising to West Coast Creative Director and scoring commercials for Coca Cola, Reebok, Adidas, Levi’s, Chrysler, Nike, and many others.

In 2001 Héctor founded Music Orange, which later partnered with Hank Smith Music to form the Bay Area’s premier boutique studio, Music Orange, Inc.

Indie film and recording artists have been some of Héctor’s favorite passion projects. He co-scored Daughter From Danang, the 2003 Sundance Grand Jury selection which was nominated for an Academy Award – as well as the HBO Sundance winner My Flesh and Blood in 2004.

In 2010 Hecdog mixed and co-produced Maldita Vecindad's album Circular Colectivo. In 2012 he scored (and briefly appears in) the viral YouTube Motherfucking Bike music video, earning props from Huffington Post and winning festivals from Seattle to Berlin. Later that year his debut album SISTEMA BOMB Presenta Electro Jarocho was nominated for Best Album Grammy in the 'Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative' category.

Sembrando Flores by Los Cojolites, an album he mixed and co-produced, was also nominated for a 2013 Grammy for Best Album in the 'Regional Mexican Music' category. In 2013 Pérez was inducted into the UC Berkeley Wall of Fame, and in 2014 was featured on NPR's award winning program, FORUM.

Hector sits on the West Coast Board of the Association of Music Producers (AMP).
